We rely on habits that have been unintentionally programmed into us over time. However, this does not always mean that these habits fit us the best. For example, wooden spoons together with sharp knives or oven mitts far from the oven. To avoid such situations, we have created some golden rules for organizing your kitchen so that the workflow is logical, the accessories needed for the activities done in the area are always close by, and precious cooking time is saved.
Things that should be closest to the sink and/or dishwasher:
Dish rack
Dish towels
Paper towels
Food storage boxes
Food film and foil
Cleaning accessories (recommended under the sink at the waste bin)
Bag holding other bags (as for all proper Latvians)
Strainers
Plates and serving dishes
Mugs (recommended near the coffee machine).
Things that should be closest to the stove and oven:
Cooking utensils: spatulas, wooden spoons (recommended in a container on the counter or in the nearest drawer)
Spices (in a drawer or on a shelf)
Oils, vinegar (on a tray next to the stove or in a specially built-in drawer)
Heat pads or boards
Kitchen gloves
Things that should be on the desktop:
Cutting boards (supported against the wall)

The most commonly used appliances: coffee machine, toaster, food processor (if the appliance is used less than once a week, place it in a drawer or cupboard)
Fruit and vegetable dishes (for room-temperature products)
Salt, pepper and the most commonly used cooking oil
Things that should be in the upper drawers:
Cutlery: forks, knives, spoons
Cooking and baking accessories: peeler, whisk, grater, can opener, etc.)
Measuring cups and measuring spoons
“Mixing” bowls
Things that should be in the lower drawers:
Pans and pots
Dishes for the oven
